Description
This classic Thanksgiving stuffing is just like Grandma used to make — hearty cubes of bread, sautéed onions and celery, aromatic herbs, and a savory touch of smoked turkey. Moist, flavorful, and baked to golden perfection, it’s the ultimate holiday side dish.
Ingredients
10 cups day-old bread, cubed
1 yellow onion, diced
3 celery stalks, diced
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
1 ½ cups diced smoked turkey
2 ½ cups chicken broth
2 large eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
2. Spread the cubed bread on a baking sheet and toast for 10–15 minutes until lightly crisped.
3. Meanwhile, melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and celery; sauté 5–7 minutes until softened. Stir in chopped herbs and cook 1 more minute.
4. In a large bowl, combine toasted bread, sautéed veggies, smoked turkey, chicken broth, beaten eggs, salt, and pepper. Gently mix to combine.
5. Transfer mixture into prepared baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
6. Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes, until top is golden and crisp.
7. Let rest a few minutes before serving warm.
Notes
Use a mix of white and whole wheat bread for added depth.
Make this ahead by prepping the stuffing mixture a day before and baking just before serving.
Leftovers reheat beautifully the next day!
