Method
- Place cold water or milk in a small mixing bowl and sprinkle the gelatin evenly over the surface. Let stand for 5-10 minutes to soften.
- In a medium saucepan, heat heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla extract or vanilla bean over medium heat until just boiling and the sugar dissolves.
- Remove from heat and discard the vanilla bean if using.
- Whisk the softened gelatin into the hot cream mixture until smooth and fully dissolved.
- If needed, return the saucepan to low heat and stir constantly until the gelatin fully dissolves without boiling.
- Pour the mixture evenly into 4 individual serving dishes.
- Refrigerate for at least 2-4 hours or until completely set.
- Top with fresh fruit, berries, berry sauce, or lemon curd if desired before serving.
Notes
Cover panna cotta with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 3 days. Serve with fresh berries, berry sauce, lemon curd, or simple cookies for an elegant dessert spread.
