- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
- Separate the eggs into two mixing bowls.
- Add 3/4 cup sugar to the egg yolks and mix on high speed until pale yellow.
- Stir in 1/3 cup whole milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
- Pour the egg yolk mixture over the flour mixture and stir gently until combined.
- Beat the egg whites on high speed until stiff peaks form.
- Gradually add the remaining 1/4 cup sugar to the egg whites while beating.
- Fold the whipped egg whites gently into the batter until combined.
- Pour batter into an un-greased 9x13 metal baking dish and smooth into an even layer.
- Bake for 25 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool completely.
- Combine evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and 1/4 cup whole milk in a small bowl.
- Poke holes all over the cooled cake with a fork.
- Slowly pour the milk mixture evenly over the cake.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour or overnight.
- Whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Spread the whipped topping over the chilled cake.
- Sprinkle ground cinnamon on top and serve with fresh sliced strawberries if desired.
Notes
Store the cake covered in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days. The baked and cooled cake can be frozen for up to 3 months before adding the milk mixture. Serve chilled with fresh sliced strawberries or alongside coffee for an easy dessert.
